Car doesnt accelerate as fast when vtec kicks in ?
Ok, I ran my car last night and I started in 3rd gear, as soon as my car hit Vtec, my car seemed to not accelerate NEARLY as much as it should. In fact, my car would have gone faster if vtec wasnt there. I know it kicks in because I still hear the engine scream when it activates. But usually my engine doesnt scream too loud when vtec comes on but last night, it was FAR too loud and I heard it well over my music even tho it was blasting. I know that its not right and something is wrong so I was wondering what the problem is. I need to know as soon as possible because im selling the car and I dont want the guy to come back at me with this problem.
Do you have any modifications or any codes being thrown? Most likely it's just in your head. Vtec isn't some large power increase, most of the time you can't hear it or feel it. What most people hear on GSR's is the secondary butterflies open up.
right but you can hear when they go in vtec. as far as mods go, nothing on the internals, got intake, exhaust headers, aem cam gears, and thats pretty much it as far as engine mods go. But the engine gets MUCH louder than before when it hits vtec. and its kind of annoying. As far as power goes, I did feel a change in power. So thats not normal.
it's probably in the tune or the clutch is slipping, or it's in your head. try giving it a tune up and see how it runs, cap, rotor, plugs etc.
I just had a valve adjustment done and they took their time with it and its still doing it. The plugs and wires are just fine . not sure on the distributer .. but I dont think that'd have anything to do with vtec does it? .. The only thing I can think of is that oil is leaking out of the vtec solenoid thing. It has been every since I rebuilt the head.
But the thing is, I just sold the car last night
.. so its not really my problem anymore . its his now .. But I still want to know incase he comes back at me or something .. Also, would be good to know for future encounters like this.. Hopefully not lol

Wow, ok so we found out what the problem is..
He took the ECU out and found out that its the stock 93 civic ecu .. Well, I guess the guy I bought the car from orriginally didnt swap the ECU out with the GSR one like he should have ..
So, he borrowed a friends gsr ECU as well as a new distributer, and vtec solenoid, and he told me that the car was almost like a different animal. He said it ran SO much better and a hell of a lot faster too.
So if anyone else has a problem like I did, try the ECU

I doubt the ecu had a problem. Its just the wrong one for the car. Wow, I am amazed at how many people just don't know anything about Honda automobiles. This guy I work with has a 94 Accord coupe with a JDM H22a. This thing was cutting out at 6500 rpm and about 9 codes in the ecu. He thought the car was running normal. I had to fix the MAP, TPS, EGR, IACV, ECT, and numerous vacuum leaks. Oh and he also has Magnecore 105mm wires, Bosch platinum plugs and a cap and rotor from 1923. It run so much nicer now after a tune up and me fixxing the problems. I yelled at him for about 20 minutes as to why Autozone and Pepboys are only for oil and car wax(in my opinion). OEM
I wouldnt use autozone car wax
. lol ..
I knew there was a problem with the car from the get go. But like I said earlier, I had no idea what the problem was. I have never been in any other GSR to compare them so I didnt know if the engine was running as well as it should have before I started getting the problems above. However, others have told me that it didnt pull as hard. But I just figured it was because it was an old motor. In any case, the guy that bought my car fixed it and isnt sueing me haha! And I found a honda dealer to sell me an 06 Si at sticker price or less
