Default compression test?

Can I compression test my motor with it out of the car? I have my b16 sitting in my garage and I'm wondering if it will read the max PSI by me turning over the crank with a ratchet?

methinks that will give lower numbers. Stoopid idea: connect the starter to a battery and hang on tight.

It won't be accurate, your engine has to be at operating temperature.

you can at least get an idea by hooking up a battery i recomend a charger on the battery to keep it charged to give you a as accurate reading as you can get.

the reading wont re right at all,

1. The enige isnt a vacume when its not cranking, Its not pulling in the sufficient amount of air.

2. Buy turning the crank by hand you are opening the valves longer so inconsistant amouts of air will enter..

you could do a leak down test, that would probally be the only thing you would be able to do while the motor is out.
