Default Factory Radio Problems - Wiring Experts Please Help!

Car: 2000 GSR

My factory radio is currently inoperable:

- No matter whether the car is on or off, the "Theft" light blinks
- When the car is on and I press the "Power" button, nothing happens (including the antenna staying retracted)
- The fuse was blown when I inspected it, but I replaced it and nothing has changed
- My cigarette lighter does not work either despite also having a fresh fuse

Some background:

- When I first purchased the car, I wanted to install my amp/sub box from my old car into the Teg. So, I took the stuff to Circuit Shitty and had them do the install. They had to use the speaker wire -> RCA adapter as the factory radio does not have RCA pre-outs. As a result, the radio never fit completely back in its slot, and was not bolted in securely.

- Eventually I grew tired of the subs, so I removed the box. I also wanted to re-fit the radio back in its slot properly, so I disconnected the adapter. However, despite the radio now going all the way in the slot, I could not re-attach the screws, so it still was not secure. As a result, if I would accelerate really quickly or bang a shift, often times the radio would jump all the way out of the slot. Sometimes this did nothing, sometimes it would cause it to shut off. Once it even blew the fuse - but a simple replacement of the fuse fixed that.

- Sure enough, it jumped out on me again, but this time it shut off and won't come back on. Did I cook it? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

well the bolts on the under side of the radio need to be checked and securly fastened. the rest of the dash should hold itself in.

If the theft light is blinking then u are recieving constant power from ur battey but since the cigerette lighter is not fuctioning u have a acc. wire that is not working properly. make sure that when u took ur line out converter(the pre out amp wiring box) off that u taped the wires very good and clean. These wires showing and touching metal will def cause ur radio to pop fuses.

To fix:
first of make sure both of the radio fuses are still good. (just cause they look good doesn't always mean so.

1. take a continiuty tester and test the fuses... one is under the hood and one is in the interior fuse box.

if changing fuses doesn't work then make sure all wires are properly connected and taped with no wires showing.

2. take a volt meter... turn ur car o.n... find the two wires on the back of the radio that read out 11.1 - 13.9 volts
once u find these 2 wires then turn ur car off... one of these wires should still read
11.1 - 13.9 volts. the other one should read like .01 - 1.9 volts... then turn the car back on and check to make sure they both read 12volts again.

if step number two works exactly how i explained it and u read 12 volts at all times on one wire and 12volts on when the car is on on the other wire then u need a new radio...... SRY.

hope this helpsss......

So I'm a big retard.

The reason the cig. lighter didn't work is because I put the fuse in the wrong slot.

The reason the radio continued to not work is b/c the fuse blew AGAIN, indicating a short somewhere. Sure enough, even though I pulled the fuse out of the power wire going to where the sub amp was, I did not cap/tape the speaker wires or remote wire. I am sure there was something going on there.

New fuses in the right slots, all is well.
