Im buying a 2001 Yellow Type R, but im scared
Hey guys, there is this 2001 yellow type R for sale at a dealership, the dealership isnt that big, but its okay sized...
The car has 57,000 miles on it, and it is a clean title, he started the car, it sounded lovely, reved it up a little, sounded great also....he didn't let me test drive it because it was 5 minutes till they close...overall, the car looks like its in good condition...but i need to know, before i buy this car, how can i tell if the motor is good? like in smooth running condition, and if it still has the power of a type-r? What kind of tests n stuff can i do....i also got the carfax for this car, and it looks good, no accidents or anything...Thanks guys, reply back if u can

Check the oil level, and then take it out for a test drive, and hit some Mad Vtec YO! Then check it again, to see if it burned any oil. Check the engine bay for any oil leaks or for anything that looks funny. BTW how much do they want for it?
If they are a creditable dealer then ask them to do a compression check in front of you. If they say no then walk away- watch how fast they change their tune

Also you need to take a look in the FAQs...
But I'll help out a future R owner

They must not think you're serious.
Just go in there and say the your time is just as important as theirs (used car salesman don't have **** to do!) and tell them to grab the damn keys and let's see if the top speed's really 145.

They want 14,900 for the car, that isnt too bad in my opinion, i see guys selling type-r's for like 16+...thanks for the replies tho guys

The NADA is 18,700 retail and 15,900 trade in on a 01 ITR w/57k. I would be very suspecious if they are only wanting 14,900. If everything checks out buy it, because it soundls like you are getting a hell of a deal. Take you time and read all the paper work if you are getting a loan. They might want like 21%intrest and a balloon payment.
