Rear lower tie bar. Don't have a pic but maybe somebody else does. There are many more things but that should be a dead giveaway, or so I heard.

make sure it got type r stickers.. j/k
just check for same thing when buying a car.. make sure everything aligns.. properly driven type r could last for very long time.. at 30K you might want to give it 30K service (valve adjustment, transmission oil change).. search under archives for whats included into 30 k service.. or just search through forums on this board.. should be over 100 threads under "buying car"

It;s one of those cars you gotta really thrash when testing it.
Let the car roll forward and let go of the wheel see if it turns to one side. The car should stay straight.
Check under the hood for frontal damage, check the boot/(truck for you guys), lift up the wooden plank there and check for rear ended shunts and car might have has.
Check the car on idle, see if it chatters/clatters like a diesel engine, prolly valve clearnaces need checking, but don;t cost much to put right. This noise should go when the engine is warmed up.
Check all gears, I'd say especially reverse to see if it;s smooth, the linkages are noisy so nothing to worry about if it does that.
Check for Dent and Dings because the Teg R has not rub strips so tends to pick these up more than most other cars.
err can;t think of anymore really, good luck!

Everything mentioned above and http://www.carfax.com. Dont want to purchase a hot Type R.
Saying this before you even got it, dunno what kinda alarms you guys have in the States but get something good for it. I haven;t been on this forum for that long but the amount of stolen Tegs I've scares me.
Look at all motor mounts as well. If the paint is cracking and pealling than it was probably driven hard. Make sure it has the trunk bar under the tailights behind the interior. I dont know what else.
