exhaust gas temp question
ive heard different things about where you put the probe fro the egt. where do you put yours and why? in the runner in your turbo mani or the down pipe?
#3 cylinder in your turbo mani. B/c that runs the hottest and if you put it in your down pipe you will not get the most accurate reading.

I haven't seen any definitive data that shows that the #3 cylinder EGTs are hotter than the others, but I'm sure someone has done the test.
Mine's on the #4 runner about 2-3" from the face of the exhaust port. EGT temps range from 650-800 at idle to 1450F-1500F at WOT with AF ratio at 11.5:1.
I use the Autometer gauge with a type J thermocouple (if I recall...it's been a few years..)

i have a real trust worthy friend that tells me to put it on number three cylinder half the size of the tube away from the flange. but the instructions say if you have a turbo charger to stick it after the turbo. so im kinda confused on the situation
The number 3 cylinder on most honda's seem to be the hottest because of the intake setup and that would be the ideal place to put the probe but some people dont put it pre-turbo because if the tip of the probe ever breaks off it is going straight into the turbo. I know that autometer makes good stuff but I still dont know if I trust it enough.
