where to tap for egt
I have heard everybody having there's in the number 3 cylinder exhaust port. I have mine about 3 inches from the exhaust exit from the turbo. Your readings will be higher on the number 3 cylinder since it is closer to the cylinders and also becasue usually the number 3 is the one that goes first. For whatever reason it seems to have more heat and more chances of detonation.
Runner 3 is the cylinder most likely to fail and it tends to run a higher temperature. This way you will know the highest temperature in the spot that is most likely to malfunction first.
mine is on #3, about 3in. away from the head.
If i could do it again, i think i would put it on #4 because i blew that cylinder before and i've seen a couple of motors done the same. plus i think #4 gets the last of the coolant flow, the coolant flows from #1 to #4.
