Default Welding wastegate on cast iron mani or o2 how to?

I am wanting to have my external wastegate put on the runner on my cast iron turbo manifold or on my o2 housing......

I've heard it is a pain to weld on cast thats why I ask. Can a flange be welded on the cast ?

My other question is my old roomate has a CNC machine and complete machine shop I know he can make the flange or tap the manifold for external wastegate but how will he make the surface flat to mate to the wastegate?

yes shouldn't be a problem to weld the flange. the key is to torch the cast before you weld...preheat, weld, and post heat. i've welded turbo flange for manifold/turbo conversions and also have converted internal gated manifolds to external. any more ?'s just ask.

its easy. like said above, preheat and let it cool on its own. do not quench it, it will crack.

I've mig welded the same thing your doing a couple times with no problems. No preheat required. Just nice welds.

I just bought some special copper based rod for tig welding steel to cast iron.

The best thing I've found is Hastelloy W tig wire. It'll stick about anything together.
