wastegate on downpipe (not honda specific)
i was once watching an episode of supertuner tv or one of those shows, and they installed an upgraded turbo on an audi. the wierd part, to me at least, was that the wastegate went mounted on the downpipe, can someone tell me how that works?

Re: wastegate on downpipe (Fst Blk GTi)
It was more than likely mounted to the downpipe flange, at the spot where the factory flapper vavle was. Its a common practice. Just cut a hole in the flange that lines up with the hole in the turbo and mount your wastegate.

that sounds right. another thing i thought of was the maybe the wastegate goes flanged to the downpipe, with an elbow fromt he manifold connected to it, as opposed to having a mated dumptube, dont see why though.

always wondered how this worked. don't you have to bleed the exhaust gases from the manifold? i know that the w/g on the downpipe works but i can't grasp the concept
