it seems whenever i come to a stop all i can hear and feel from what seems to be the back brakes is a thunking type noise, almost like the brake wants to stick to a certain spot on the drum.

what is causing this?

s in. I had the same problem and one of the bolts was missing

 

Remove the drum-cover and visually inspect it. It's not hard to take off at all. Use a common screwdriver and pry it out, side to side. Or take two 8mm bolts and screw them into them 2 threaded holes to push the drum-cover outward.
