If your speedometer doesn't work then your VSS isn't working right. Make sure it is in all the way and even if it looks like it, give it a good push in. If the idle is going up and down, check your throttle cable, and also check your vacuum lines.
Might wanna clean out your IACV. It's on the back of your intake manifold. Two bolts hold it on, theres two coolant lines running to it, and an electronic plug. Take it off and blast it out with some carb cleaner. Most of them are usually all gunked up inside.
I've heard this can be a culprit of surging idles.

The VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor, you removed it in the swap and I am hoping you put it back in. It plugs into the tranny and has a long cable running from it to your speedo.

i will have to check that..i didnt do the swap i helped..i am new to working on cars...i specialize in car audio..lol can u tell me where this is located so i can check without having to go back to the guy who did the major work?
I can only describe where it is so work with me since I am going off memory. If you pop the hod and look at the Intake manifold, you will look directly down and toward the rear crossmember and the tranny mount, you will hopefully see a cable that is plugged into your transmission.
you can see where the speedo cable goes into the tranny in this picture. http://www.binghamtonlife.com/...5.jpg
ok i found the speedo cable it is connected to the tranny...bad news it is not connected to anything else. it was hanging under the car...so now do i need to repalce it and if so is it hard to replace?
Well, if its not all beat up from being dragged under your car (had to laugh when i read that) it goes all the way up behind the dash and into the backside of your gauge clutster. Just pops in.
ok the speedo cable was shot..i bought a new one today and replaced it..it dont feel like the cable is connected in the tranny all the way...does it just pop in? i am unable to start the car right now cus of waiting on the throttle body....
