Re: STC dbb hunter turbo + db8 gsr = grocery gettin street car build
I've used a few XTD clutches over the years. Only ever used the ceramic pucks, never the full face organics since I heard bad things about them. From my experience, the stage 3, 4 and 5 will usually hold the power you want...but they wear out the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces very, very quickly which causes them to begin to lose clamping force over a short period of time. I only got about 7500 miles out of a Stage 5 kit with the 4 puck disc but the stage 4s with the 6 puck were lasting me about 15,000 before slipping during hard shifts which was enough to warrant replacement for me since it's a daily and gets a lot of miles. You should be fine with that XTD clutch for what you do with the car. Just be wary of the throwout bearing because those things are garbage. Personally, I just switched to an ACT XTSS kit a few months back and I couldn't be happier. It's got their full face disc which I'm really happy with. Don't think I'll be going back to a puck style unless I absolutely have to, at least for street use.

I appreciate your first hand experience and info man, thanks. What kind of break in period do you give your puck type clutches? I've always ran mine hard after a very short breakin ~50 miles or so. Cheap *** clutch = me not caring as much lol.
Re: STC dbb hunter turbo + db8 gsr = grocery gettin street car build
I decided to go back to a real tire as these 205 neo gens were not cutting it at this power level. I went with Toyo R888 in 235/50/15 up front and 225/50/15 out back, mounted on 15x8 wheels. These hook sooo much better then the neo gens. Before if I rolled into third it would blow the tires off and hit the rev limiter, with these 235 R888s it doesn't spin at all, just pulls hard and puts the power down.
Size comparison. 205/50/15 neo gen next to 235/50/15 R888
I realized I haven't posted a pic of the bay since the engine went back in. Not much different, just painted the IC piping wrinkle black.

Hows the ECTs / Radiator holding up?
The R888s are not being made in 225 size anymore or I would have bought them. 235/50/15 is the closest thing available now. Yeah these are +20 a +35 would have been better, but oh well.
Love the radiator setup. Fan is set to come on at +186 ect and the absolute highest I've seen on a hot day 192.
The 225/50/15 R888s on the back are the same ones I bought last summer, they are not available in that size anymore.

They're scheduled to discontinue the line by late 2017 early 2018 from what I understand. So, suppliers are selling them out and not getting sizes back again.

i love this thread. i know the topic of clutches has come and gone, but i just wanted to say that for the money, Action is my choice. I paid $297 shipped for my stage 3 1ms and it is BY FAR the best street/strip clutch ive even driven. It grabs when i need it to and its smooth when i want it to be. It drives as nearly as easily as my exedy stage 1 and its worlds better than my comp stage 4. I will likely never use a different clutch brand unless i need a twin disk, cuz Action doesnt make twins
Re: STC dbb hunter turbo + db8 gsr = grocery gettin street car build
Nice I just upped the tire size myself, went with a 235/60/15 and they fit well. Also just renewed my registration for the next 5 years so I will test these out on the street.

hahaha, that is the new beast going on. Just waiting for Full Race to finish up the manifold. I got the tacked manifold to test on my car and just brought it back down for them to finish up.

The whole r888 line is going away? That's too bad. I noticed they have an R888R line now, maybe that will be replacing the current R888 line?

Thanks man! I just checked out action clutches and they look good. They are all made in the USA too witch is a plus and they're cheaper then the equivalent competition or act clutch. Oh and they do offer a twin disc now. I'll likely give them a try next time. Appreciate the info.

Yes it did. I mean it weighs 3000 lbs and trapped 126mph so it's definitely making decent power. And after looking back at the data log of that pass I could tell the old clutch was starting to slip. Can't wait to get back to the track, won't be another track day until the 6/30 though. Maybe I'll be able to make a video before then.

Figures as soon as lightningteg asks about my cooling system my thermostat stuck barley open and caused all kinds of cooling issues. I noticed my ECT get up to 198* and would not drop back down. Pulled the thermostat and this is what I found...
OEM only for this one folks. I've read so many horror stories about cheap parts store thermostats. Its only $20 for new OEM. New part is in and all is well again
