Need Your thoughts?
Well i want to get my civic painted i heard that if i do the prep work myself i will run cheaper on the paint job. So where should i start as far as getting it ready to paint and tips would help. Body's in great condition. thanks.
Body filling and prepping is maybe the most difficult task for a car. It takes time, time, and time. I say first search the others that have done it, and then start prepping. You need to sand, fill, sand, prime, sand, fill, prime and repeat until the car is flawless. If you have money and do not want to do it all yourself, then I recommend having it all done professionally. Because in the end, the finish paint job is only as good as the bodywork underneath. And i speak from experience, and trial and error. Good luck. PM me if you need any help.

This is the first thing I tell people any time they are asking about prep work. I don't know a ton, but I have a lot of friends who do this for a living, and I know a bad job from a good one.
If you're looking to save money, do the whole thing yourself if you plan on doing the prep work anyway. Most painters I know won't touch someone else's bodywork to begin with. If you don't want to paint it, consult the bodyshop you want to hire to lay down the color and see what they say. A good relationship with your painter throughout this process is invaluble. Good luck.
P.S. get some before and after pics to post here 'cos we're all just picture junkies at heart.
