Ok so, an old buddy of mine got in contact with me saying that his girlfriends car is at the paint shop right now and should be done by the weekend. The car was red and got painted white, on the outside. so naturally the door jams are still red.

Question:
when i paint them white how can i go about making it look flush and not have a line where the door jam paint meets the outside paint, get it? because im going to need to mask but dont want a line. Or am i just overthinking this??

any tips on the doorjams?
I could get it to where it looks good and he wont care but just me personally wants to do a good job, so any suggestions would help

 

You can reverse tape the jambs, and after every coat, pull back the tape a little to blend in the next coat. I read an article on it and saw a youtube video. afterwards wetsand and buff... seems pretty straight forward.

 

I gotcha i gotcha....seems like it would be easy for the bottom part but a little tough for the sides and top of the door jam where it curves. you think i can just mask it and wet sand the line out?

 

I would just pull the doors off and mask off the car and the door opening. leaving the jams only exposed. but ill mask the car off leaving a little of the new paint exposed so you can overlap the paint and not leave a gap or a clear visible line of 2 different paints

 

yeah maybe a little overlap and wetsand, i dont wanna go using new teqniques im not familiar with on a newly painted car...we had said he was going to do most prep like just scuff and mask so i wouldent charge alot, but hey if he wants to take those doors off in 103 degree heat be my guest lol
