Help me sand and paint this scratch!
I know, this should be in Appearance/Cosmetic. Posted there too, just trying to get quick responses cause i wanna finish this before it starts raining again
I've got a NHBP 98 hatch. Was driving across country and a small piece of cement kicked up and scratched my door. Its about 4,5 inches higher than the rocker panel where the door curves in a bit. Its about 6 inches long by maybe a 1/4 of an inch high. So far i've sanded it, and naval jellied the tiny bit of rust i couldnt sand off. I'm Just not sure how to mask off the rest of the door for overspray so that i dont have a line where the new paint meets the old. I had heard of cutting a hole in cardboard the shape of the scratch and spraying through that? Also, what grit should i use before and after the primer and paint?
I got the duplicolor can of NHBP from the autoparts store, hope it matches but im not too concerned because of where the scratch is. Anyone know how that stuff turns out?
All input is welcomed and much appreciated from those who have had experience or knowledge on this issue
Here's the scratch. On the Driver door.
