Asking for help removing tints
Never done anything like it, but yesterday I got a ticket for my 15% tints. I need to remove them, and I want to do it myself. Can anyone help me out on how to go about doing this? what chems, tools, etc..
TIA

Spray ammonia on your window. Cover it with a black plastic bag and let the car sit in the sun for a few hours. (depending on how long the tint's been on) then peel slowly. Make sure you have lots of paper towels. Be very careful with the back window or you will destroy your rear defrost. That's the one that needs to sit the longest. For the other windows you can use a razor blade to scrape some of the residue but be careful not to scratch the glass.
This is the method I use and have not had any issues. Take your time don't rush and you'll be fine. Take pictures and let us know how it turns out.

inside ofthe car is going to smell like cat **** from the amonia, but yeah that's the way i've always heard also. that's why they say to use amonia-free glass cleaners on tinted windows.
dont know bout ur tints but mine was fairly easy to take off. Used a Razor blade to peel one end and pealed it off from there. Yours might not be as easy as mine or could be the same. Good Luck.
I peeled the tint off of my drivers side window (passenger window was replaced and didn't have tint). But to clean off the adhesive residue... I used glass cleaner in a aerosol can...I think it was from autozone...but anyway...spray it on...let it sit and wipe away with some force...took the adhesive right off for me.

I called a local tint place and they made the mistake of telling me to "allow time for the steaming process" when I was going to drop my car off for new tint. That gave us an idea. (They wanted $50 to remove the old, bubbly, purple tint.

This is what we used:
1) household iron with steam
2) friend willing to peel tint
3) spray bottle with water
4) wet rag or paper towel (I used a paper towel.)
5) WD-40
6) razor blade
Put the wet paper towel on the outside of the glass, put the iron on the paper towel, start at a corner, get tint started peeling with razor blade, move iron slowly, peel tint from area directly behind iron. It should all come off in one sheet, if not, you're doing it wrong. Just remember to keep the iron over the area that's peeling and keep the glass and paper towel wet with the spray bottle. A lot of the glue will come off with the tint. Anything that's left over can be removed with WD-40 and a razor blade. Goo Gone did nothing for me. Be careful not to touch your rubber moldings/trim with the iron.

I just took a razor blade to one corner of the tint and peeled it from there. It was expletive hot outside so very little adhesive stuck on the glass. I used paint thinner on what was left. It's an easy yet time consuming job. Take the most time on the rear window because of that defroster!
