Default what should this car be worth?

I saw a kid local here selling a 92 CX hatch dark grey with 156k on the odo and what he says is around 35k on the motor. It has a B16A2 swaped in with 16" Velox R wheels, KYB AGX struts, eibach sportline springs, Blue Tenzo TypeR seats, gutted rear section, 5" tach with shift light

overall the car looks good for a 92 but it has some decent rust over the RR fender and a dent in the hood and a long dent in the R door

he's asking $4000...what is a good price to pay for this car assuming that it runs well and doesnt need any immediate work

if you can get it for 3500 id say its worth it.

i can't imagine there's a huge import scene in new hampshire, so you've pretty much got this kid by the *****. start asking him all sorts of questions about the swap, point out EVERY single little thing wrong with the car, then lowball him. generally, you should never pay anyone for the aftermarket stuff they've done... figure out the blue book and go from there. if by some bizarre chance he actually gets a better offer, more power to him.

theres not really a huge import scene, TONS and TONS of ricers but not very many serious import tuners, especially in the Honda scene, the WRX crowd is growing big and there seems to be a big German scene with a lot of Audi's and BMW's but the Honda scene is pretty low key.

The KBB pvt party value of a 92 Civic CX hatch with 156k is only $1300 in fair condition. I know that $1300 for a hatch with a B16 is not a fair price in anybodys book I mean just the swap hardware is worth $2k+ alone. I dont really know a lot about swaps so what kind of ?'s should I ask to make this kid think I really know what I'm talking about?

And plus im basically looking for a car I can drive to work to save miles on my 18k WRX which only avg's me about 20mpg and being only 2 yrs old is depreciating fast enough, I dont need a ton of miles on it to help that further. I had a B18B in my Integra and it was the best motor ive ever had in terms of reliability, gas mileage and ease of maintenance, I would think a B16 would be just as good in those area's

if it was my car i would not take less than 3k. but m not the one selling it. so maybe you can get it for less. lowball him and see what he says. then work from there.
