swap ideas
I own a 99 civic dx coupe, i need to upgrade from the d16y7 non vtec motor. Theirs 3 ideas i have and im kinda yah know 18 full time job just to support college and everything so im low on cash. Heres the first idea..
mate a d16y8 vtec head from a del sol onto the d16y7 bottom, new cam, new ecu, throttle body, and other motor accesories
b16 vtec swap, would have to wait a while or do a loan on, would be stock for prolly ever
b18 gsr swap, not even enough cash to pay for 1/4 of it, would need a loan or save for a while.
i dont know what to do, the d16 would have lots of internal mods and prolly springtime turbo kit, just leave some feedback on some ideas thanx

Re: swap ideas (MAcustoms)
For a economical swap, I would piece together a b20z w/ a b16 tranny. You'll love the torque, be faster than a b16 and not break the bank.
b20z longblock 900
b16 tranny 600
swap necessities 500
~2000 total

Re: swap ideas (MAcustoms)
Ive managed to get my hands on a d16z6 head from a del sol, vtec still intact, is their anyway to mate that to a d16 bottom, it needs a new cam, rocker assembly, and small accesories but is their anything else that would be needed to attempt this swap, its nut going to be stock swap, its gunna be a winter build up swap

SilverCIVIC96's idea is a very solid one. It would give you an excellent base for possibly going to a CRVTEC setup down the road. Getting a B16 would be a pain since your Civic is OBD-2. You would have to get at least an OBD 1 B16 and get a harness from Hasport...total cost would be in the neighborhood of $3k. You could do a B18 swap as well with the B16 tranny, or forego that and keep the LS one since you might want to boost down the road. The LS setup should be around the same price. Look on http://www.passwordjdm.com if you want a long block. You may also want to consider the fact you could probably sell your old setup as well as the Z6 head you had for some change.
