Default Shielded wire for 02? Is this a must?

I'm redoing ALL of my o2 wiring since I can't keep from throwing a code, and I was wondering if the white wire has to be shielded? It's not shielded form the ecu to the strut tower harness, so I don't understand why it's shielded between the strut tower harness and the 02 plug.

Is shielded wire a must for it?

If so, is that something I can just buy at like Radio Shack or something? Trying to get this done today

TIA

On a 1-wire O2, it's not a must.... but on a 4-wire O2, it's recommended so there's no interferance or feedback from the other wires.

Thanks.

Do you know if it's something I can just buy at Radio Shack? Or will shielded audio wire work?

i tried but, radio shack doesn't carry shielded wires. i had to go to a small mom's and pop's type electronics store to purchase the shielded wire.

thanks for the tip, saves me a trip.

Does anybody know if I have to buy it as a unit, or if I can just by the 'sheath' and slide over an existing wire?

Could I use an RCA patch and just cut off the plug? Then use the positive splice for the source, and use the negative splice as the shield?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by hot_EH &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Could I use an RCA patch and just cut off the plug? Then use the positive splice for the source, and use the negative splice as the shield?

</TD></TR></TABLE>I wouldnt suggest doing that because the wire that carries the o2 signal is different than most other wires. RCA wires are mostly copper have have a higher resistance than the material the o2 wires are made of.

BTW... I do have a spare female side plug for the o2 if you need one. PM me.

hmmm. well, do you know what kind of wire I should use?

I've really got no clue where to look/what exactly to get, but I don't want to risk throwing more codes by not having a shielded wire there.

they sell it by the foot and the shielded wire came with two 18 gauge wires in one large gray shield. the shield is similar to the black shield on the television cable wires.

i bought it from a mom's and pop's type electronics store where they focus primarily on electronics parts such as diodes, resistors, parallel ports, solders, etc here in southern california.
