Default Question about b17a???

Well I am hopefully purchasing a b17a soon. I am currently building a b16a2 sleeved to 84mm.

I was told that the b17a is pretty much a stroked b16. If this is true can I just drop it in my b16 or do the mains have to be changed to get it to fit correctly? Do the sleeves have to be notched at all?

What rods/pistons would I use? b17a or b16's??

Okay so after searching for awhile this is what I came up with..

b16 block = b17 block
b16 crank don't = b17 crank
b16 pistons/rods don't = b17 piston/rods

What I am left wondering is if the b17 main caps are the same as the b16 ones.

Rods/crank are different, rods are shorter, crank has slightly longer stroke, cams are also different. Everything else is the same except the intake manifold is stamped P61.

The valves are bigger than gsr valves, I don't know if all B16's are like that, I just know I bent my B17 valves and tried to throw gsr's in, but they were too small.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

if you use b16a block sleeved to an 84mm bore you can't use b16 or b17 pistons

so, assuming(not to say you will,) you're using stock b series parts for this build then b20b or b20z pistons are in order since they are 84mm, these have different dome heights.

rods, depending on what rods you use, b16a rods are 134mm approx, b17a rods are 132mm.

crankshaft, b16a crank has a 77mm stroke, the b17a is 81.4mm aprrox.

Headgasket, you need to specify a thickness as this will affect your compression.

Head, I am assuming a b16a head too? Different b heads have different sized cc volumes

here just goto http://www.zealautowerks.com

choose the B series compression calculator

plug in your your different parts & see what ya get

just tried a certain combo, b16a block bored to 84 mm, b17 crank, b20z pistons, b16 rods, b16a head and a 2 layer headgasket. This combo yields an 11.36:1 compression ratio. Congratulations on that firebreathin 1.8liter, but usin your 84mm block, b18c crank, b16a head, b20b pistons, b17 rods and a 3 layer HG gives you 11.67 compression and 1933 ~ 1.9 liter displacement.

I had a link to the r/s ratio but I cannot find it right now, I'll look @ work tommorow...

The calculator is a guide, not gospel.

have fun

well I was going to get some rods and pistons for turbo application. Thats why I was wondering what Pistons and rods I should use.

does it matter which mains I use for the main caps? Or can I get a z10 girdle?

ok, then use the compression calc & plug in the numbers...
