problems with jdm b16
i've got a real big problem on my hands here and was hoping someone could help me out: i've got a b16a swap in a 94 del sol. i've had the swap for a little over a year and now its starting to have some problems. first off, after the car has had a chance to warm up it loses power mid-way through gears. it has good top end and good torque but mid-range it sucks. i've change plugs, wires and disturbtor cap as well as the pcv valve. also the bigger problem is when the car warms up it will blow a little bit of smoke out the exhaust. its not a lot of smoke but enough to notice. it does it most when i barely aply the gas after its had time for the back pressure to build up. i did a compression check and the numbers seemed good but someone told me it could possibly be the head gasket or the oxygen sensor. only problem is i'm not throwing any codes. i'm pretty much stumped on this one so any advice is greatly need.

what were your compression numbers? if your head gasket is blown near the cylinders which would make it lose power, it would be losing compression.
What ECU are you using? check your plugs to see if the car is running very lean (white and blistered) or very rich (black and sooty). Also, check your base timing with a timing light.
do you have any problems with surging idle or bogging/cutting out at low rpm?
there are a number of things to check.... it could be as simple as a clogged air filter.
What spark plugs are you using? what gap are you using? did you change the distributor rotor when you changed the cap?
check your cam timing.
If you say you are smoking, i would definately try to get a leak down test performed as that will tell you exactly where the car is losing oil/compression from.

Re: (91civicDXdude)
i checked the motors compression and they went as follows 175, 180, 180, 185 respectivly. i'm not too familar with what a good compression should be so i'm not sure if those are good or not. as far as the other things you mentioned i'll check some of that stuff tomorrow to see what happens. as far as the ecu is concerned, i'm still running the ecu sent with the motor swap. i did check my plugs and from the looks of em the car's running rich. by the way the plugs are ngk.
