Default Problem....I need your input

For the past week, i've been having wierd startups....When i start up my car....its kinda idles rough...and then smooths out.....after driving it idles smooth..etc...its only when the car has been off and i try to start the car up. Then...today..while driving to work..i noticed a loud pop on my passenger side firewall..it was freaking scary...i thought..maybe a rock or something cameup that side or something..so i didn't think much of it...but then a few seconds later...a CEL comes up..i haven't checked the code yet..im at work..but a friend is coming up to help me check it....but....when that CEL came up...I pulled over..popped the hood...i didn't see anything out of the ordinary..i checked under the car..no leaks...oil level was fine in the dip stick....this is freaking me out....any ideas?
