Default Poor Mans Type R Q's

Ok I need to rebuild my B18C1. SO I was looking to add some performance mods internally you know .

Anyway. I was Reasearching and I realized I could mount the B16 head onto my B18C head. Sell my C1 head and have cash for the 16 head and head internals. anyway onto the questions.

1. will any year B16 head work? I dont think OBD plays a part in heads but I may be wrong.

2. I will need to get B18C1 head studs correct.

3. I will need to get B16 pistons or USDM ITR pistons to get sompression up after the head change.

4. will I need to change my valve springs? I plan on running ITR cams.

just to let you all know I plan on running a VAFC for management.

I think this is the best answer to my rebuild. I was going to rebuild it and put ITR pistons in the block but that will help out minimal. So this is a good way to make some decent power and have the minimul out of pocket.

TIA

yes any B16A will work cast is all the same.
B18c1/5 studs will work but if you are doing the work invest in ARP.
b16a piston will crank the compression higher then the ITR ones.
it wouldn't hurt to get the new valvetrain pieces but more times then none you shoudl be more then fine using what you got.
you can run a VAFC or simply opt out for a chip for the ecu. might be alot more cost effective and with less problems along the way. points of around 5-5.2k rpm should work just fine (as far as vtec).

is it cheapest way to make power? no, not really, I would personally get the head shaved a little, new thinner head gasket. add to that Skunk2 intake and ITR cams and performance should be identical with alot less cost.

some how to anwsers.

the only problem is I dont have time for the down time to mill head and all that. Plus sometimes you can find B16 shortblocks for about 5-800 dollars. And I could use all teh pieces, Pistons head then sell me head and the b16 block or trade parts for other parts.

now more questions. Will my IM fit to the B16 head? should I swap my GSR cams into the B16 head? or should the B16 cams and valvetrain support my P72 ECU's redline?

Still pondering this setup. Or possibly just quick bottom end rebuild on my block and adding ITR valve springs and retainers and rasing redline to 8500, and with proper tunning w/ the VAFC I should be making power hopefully to there?

Who knows. rebuilds are fun but not fun at the same time

No one has answers to these questions?

If you are staying all motor, then I would stick with your GSR head. Why buy a whole new vtec head when you have a perfectly good candidate sitting right on it?The GSR head (p72) results in higher compression due to its square combustion chambers, as opposed to the B16/C5 (PR3) heads' circular combustion chambers. Just do some work to the head, you can send it out to get p&p if you like, or just swap in some ITR or CTR cams. You don't need to upgrade the valvetrain or springs for these cams.

And also to raise compression a bit, swap in either B16a or ITR pistons.

Erick Aguilar can even build you a motor like his 10 second GSR motor. Check out http://www.ericksracing.com
