p28 in a obd0, distributor help
ok so I put a b16a head (91 pr3 jdm head) on my b18a1 (91 integra) block last weekend.
The p28 ecu (obd1) I got won't start the car (91=obd0), I tested the ecu in a 93 GSR and it ran fine. I am using a jumper harness from StreetLightz
I have read many conflicting thoughts on obd0 to obd1 conversions concerning the distributor...
- Many say I need a obd1 or obd2 vtec distributor, (T-44U or T-68U)
- others say they have used there LS distributors after cutting a leg off to make room for the vtec solinoid, (are these obd1 & obd2 distributors only?)
- others say I just need to match the distributor to the head (obd0 jdm)
- while others still say to match the distributor to the ecu. (SOHC T-42U)
After hacking a leg off I have my old LS distributor in the b16 head. car wouldn't start with the p28,
I plugged my LS ecu (pr4 I think?) back in and the car starts right up and runs fine. but no Vtec
thoughts / experiances / advice? anything will help.
thanks guys.
You have a obd0 car. Get a obd0 vtec computer and run the vtec wires. This is chris that used to live at the apartments with you. Run it with the non vtec computer, it will be cool until you get a obd0 vtec computer. That's the easiest way. That jumper is suspect!

the problem lies in the jumper. the dizzy doesnt care about vtec. are you running an LS harness? make sure when u use the vtec computer with the LS dizzy that u have vtec pinned in the right spot...its going to be a seperate wire.
Thanks for feedback guys, keep it comming, just a little more info for you all.
car is obd0, using stock LS wiring harness, resistor block, injectors and distributor.
I would like to be able to run the obd1 ecu for tunning potential as I know there are many more programs available for obd1 than obd0. That and the obd0 vtec ecu's are jdm only and kinda hard to find. re:expensive. If a obd0 vtec ecu is not a option, how can I get the p28 to run my car?
I'm sure my problem can be fixed with a dizzy swap, just need to know which one, and low cost is key. If i don't need a gsr dizzy and can get away with any obd1 LS dizzy then thats what I will do.
-There is no difference between vtec & non-Vtec dizzys? (asside from where the leg hits the solenoid), it has no effect on signals sent right?
-What is the difference between obd0, obd1, obd2 dizzys? (all the wires can be matched up between them.) Is the signals it sends the same?
Chris, the dizzy you gave me was a T-42U, for a sohc vtec, it did fit into the head (with a little grinding) but where the rotor is supposed to be pointing at #1 cyl it looked like it was pointing near #4, I did get spark out of it but timing was way off the compression stroke.
How would I go about testing the jumper harness? well I already know that answer, get pin-out charts for both ecu's, check for proper wiring between pins on the jumper, check continuity at each one... Any quicker, less tedious ways to check?
sorry for the long read, thanks guys
To run the OBD1 ecu, you will need the OBD1 or OBD2 distributor. The pre-OBD (OBD0) distributor will not work with a factory OBD1/2 ecu.
