Default OBD0 Distributor on P28?

Concerning the distributor wiring, I was under the impression the OBD0 distributor had to be swapped with an OBD1 unit along with an ignition conversión harness (unless you want to rewire it yourself) to run a P28 ECU but I've seen "hints" on the Internet that the OBD0 distributor just has to be rewired. Can someone confirm this and if it is true, provide a link to the rewiring? Thanks!

If using an obd1 or obd2 ecu you must use an obd1 or obd2 distributor. Obd0 distributor won't work with an obd1 or obd2 ecu.

^ That.

The OBD-0 distributor has a different number of teeth on the inner rotor than the OBD1/2 distributors have.

Yes, I believe OBD0 is 16 pulses vs 24 on OBD1 (correct me if I'm wrong). The thing is I've been selling OBD1 distributors with my OBD0 to OBD1 conversion kits (ECU, ECU harness, distributor & distributor harness) for years but just recently seen "hints" that the OBD1 distributor is not necessary.

Obd0 is 16 and obd1/2 is 24 that is correct.
Unless ypu had a way to modify the ecu to look for a 16 count pickup vs the standard 24 count then it wont work. No amount of rewiring will change that.

It might be possible to tear down an obd0 distributor and change the pick up gear to a 24 tooth gear but thats too much of a pain imo.

Rewiring wont do anything since wire for wire they connect to the same sensors. Unless you change the distributors guts, or modify the ecu, you need obd1/2 distributor for obd1 and obd0 for obd0.

Do you have a link to these "hints"?
