real quick distributor question
ok, im getting ready to start pieceing together the parts to convert my LS Vtec crx to obd1, i have the following in my car..
95 B18B1 bottom end
95 B16A3 head
chipped OBD0 PR3
OBD0 TD-22U distributor
if sourced the following for the conversion...
virgin P28 (auto)
virgin P28 (5 speed)
OBD2b Type R distributor
now my question is this..
is there any real difference between the distributor that i use? i was originally planning on swapping the obd2 plug for obd1 plugs and running the Type R distributor. or should i just buy a obd1 B16 distributor? i know i have to get my P28 chipped for the B series motor. other than the jumper harness would what i have so far work? thanks for the input guys. also is there any difference in performance by running a B16 dizzy over a GS-R or Type R dizzy?

Seeing as how many posts you have and are still at 100%, your probably smarter than me, but heres what i think. Use the obd1 dizzy since thats what your converting too. Also, when you get chipped its not really for a b-series, i believe its just mearly disabling the knock sensor to make it b compatable. I dont think their will be any performane gained from the use of a type-r dizzy b/c they all serve the same purpose, i dont think one puts out any more voltage than the other. However i cant say for sure.

Re: (z6hatchboy)
well i know the P28 has to be re-chipped to a somewhat mimic the P30 b16 ecu and P72 GS-R ecu, but i kno it wont look for a knock sensor because the P28 doesnt look for one. but anyway is it fine to just re-pin the obd2 dizzy to obd1 plugs? thats my main concern, cuz i can do that easy. thanks again.

Correct on the p28, they just use the base maps from the p30. Im pretty sure you can re-pin the dizzy, b/c thats the main diff. between obd's on the dizzy's, i've seen a few write-ups on re-pins. So i say go for it

yea im planning on goin obd1 maybe next summer. well i think ill just make myself an adapter from obd0- obd1. i made one last year for my hatch. it was an 89 Z6 powered HB. and my obd0-0bd1 adapter worked fine. so i think i might go that route i just gotta dig up my diagram that i made myself. lol

Based on looking at the FSM's on both types of distributors, I don't see any reason why you couldn't just adapt it over. They are essentially the same design.
