Default LS VTEC Prelude? Worth the effort?

I know that it's "possoble" meaning with the right ammount of cash you do whatever. However, is putting a LS VTEC into a 90PreludeSi worth it? My friend has an LS block in his garage and the wheels started turning so to speak. It wou'dn't be too hard to get axels, computer, B16a head but what would you guys do for shiftlinkage etc? I believe that i can use my current tranny (don't all b series trannies bolt up?) Basicaly is it worth my time?

why would u do that for but wat u could do is get a h23 block and mate that on to a h22 vtec head and there for u will have something like the ls vtec but i wouldn't recommend puttin a ls vtec in a perlude and i don't think the perlude tranny will fit on the ls block anyway

the h23vtec sounds like a better idea anyway. I Can use the h22 mounts...Reason i asked is cause the ls block is free... I'll look into the h23vtec...

it will be a chaep conversion compared to any H22 job!

hte angle of hte engine may pose a problem though...

plus the increased height of hte head/block combo may be an issue...

plus you will need ECU and custom shift linkages (easy DIY)

hth,

good call on the hood clearance issue. I know honda had like an 18deg. "tilt" for hoodline clearance on the 3rd gen ludes... I need more power. I need a better engine. There's got to be better options. N20 is in the plan but i don't think it'll be enough. Besides i want the power all the time, not just at WOT with it armed....sigh

yeah i've noticed that myself. I see all these 3rd gen ludes with H22's and as soon as they get them running, it seems like they sell it. Does anybody have a weight comparison for b21a1 and h22? that would be interesting to see.

i think VTEC69's weight comment is based on the car, not the engine.

but this is pretty much a broadly spouted misconception, as the 88-91 Prelude only weighs 1150KG in FULL spec,

for comparison the Type R EK weighs in at a hefty 1090KG FULL spec including airbags...

and the DC2 Type R integra weighs in at a huge 1160KG FULL spec!

so i dunno where this unfounded Prelude bashing comes from?

t..

PS i have heard the H22a has about 70lbs heavier than a B16A

so we still havn't come to a conclusion, weight isn't really an issue for me. The fact of the matter is that i need a new motor in my Prelude (i've got the b21a1 :mad and my friend has the ls longblock we were thinking we could build it up and put it in. It'd be fun and i'd get a new motor. Will it work? would it be better to go with a B20a?

dude,

i really dont know what is bad about the B21A. it is same as B20A but bored out to 83mm, which means it has BETTER 'geometry' than the B20A!

it puts out 150hp and has as much torque as a B18C GSR engine.

so what is your problem?

you can modify it!

put cam gears on it, bigger exhaust, CAI, camshafts...

it should do 15's easy!

t..

PS - i dunno why lots of people on HT dis-respect this engine - anyone able to enlighten me???
