LS/VTEC Header Question? VTEC or Non-VTEC?
Okay so I was wondering, I am buying a Header for my LS/VTEC this week and I was wondering if there is a difference between a LS Header and a GSR/Type R Header?
My LS/VTEC is not exactly as satisfying as I thought it would be, but maybe thats because I chose not to do pistons yet (using stock LS). Basically my motor is lacking up top a little bit, so I figured maybe its because of the Stock LS Header and Throttle Body I have on it right now. Do you think those LS parts still being on my LS/VTEC are really holding me back?
Thanks in advance to those who Reply...

most likely because you are using the stock LS pistons is the main thing holding you back. I'm not too sure what the compression is but I'm guessing it's mid 9:1 and that's pretty low for a setup like ls/vtec
a header won't make much difference but if you do buy the header it would be best to get some higher compression pistons and you will feel the difference

pistons would be a big help however if your looking for a header than just get a four to one header like the jdm type r cuz it flows real well but any will do

what I need to know is an LS header the same as a gsr one? flow wise?
Because my friends Shop has a Header but its for a LS motor, is that the same part number as the one for a GSR?

What cams are you using? I have a friend who is using OBD-0 B16 cams and they are "like nubs on a cam". The car pulls hard but it lacks up top where you would think it would have alot of power.
Ls/Vtec-built bottem end. cam gears, intake, header, exhaust, no cat, vtec controller, and full MSD set-up.
Maybe you have the same problem. What year head do you have?

Re: LS/VTEC Header Question? VTEC or Non-VTEC? (Redcoupe)
i have a ls/vtec with b16a head. I'm using a the stock ex. manifold from a 91 ls. It fits perfectly. I didn't even have to cut or re-bend any of the exhaust when I went from an ls to the ls vtec. I don't have much power up top either. I built my bottom end to lower the compression. Low compression pistons and big cam lobes don't perform well together unless boosted.

ls/vtecs are monsters when you don't restrict the breathing... they love air. get better pistons, a better exhuast system (i.e. header, etc) and intake mani and tb. build your head if you have the money for it. i'm running .25 p72 pistons on my ls/vtec with a stock 16 head making 180whp.

Use your stock LS rods with the P30 pistons but get new rod bolts. Also ditch the block gaurd it's a waste of money. My build

that's a nice build... here's another quality build. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1161134 check the two other pages for updates and my dyno. itr pistons on ls rods.
