Ls/vtec with GS-R Motor
Can anyone give me an exact list of what parts to use for my ls vtec setup? Here is what I have...
A complete GS-R motor, and a LS Block. I found which oil lines and fittings to use, and where to drill the head. I am clueless on the rest though. Can I do it just like a GS-R Rebulid only use the ls block (with all gsr internals)?
Sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks!
Andy

hmmm... here goes correct me if i am wrong.
1) you need to move the oil and water pump, block girdle, windage tray, oil pickup, oil squirters (gsr) to the ls block.
2) try looking for PR3/P30 pistons mated to ls rods. it should yield a higher compression than the gsr pistons. check link ---> http://www.bojangs.com/calculator/
3) get ARP rod (ls) and head (gsr) bolts.
4) gaskets, bearings, timing belt
And get a *** HELMS manual *** and torque wrench. There's more but can't remember the rest. Hope i helped.

Re: Ls/vtec with GS-R Motor (johnd)
If you already have a GSR, why would you build na LSVTEC???
GSR parts are built stonger than the LS.

but yes THROW AWAY THOSE DIRTY LS pistons... unless you are going force induced

Re: Ls/vtec with GS-R Motor (IM ALL SHO)
Just use the GSR motor...it'll be more reliable and make just as moch power I'd bet. The torque of the LS isn't going to be that much better.

I am running this set up now. It works. The only reason I am running this set up is that I needed a car to drive so I couldn't pull my motor and rebuild it. It would have taken me too long. So I did the next best thing. I had a block preped for GSR internals. I had a GSR block girdle installed etc.
The torque you will be gaining from the LS stroke, you will be making up with increase bore size. I am running 85mm bore with iron sleeves, and JE 11:1's with Eagle Rods. You will also have the revs that you won't have with the LS setup.
If you already have the GSR complete, then I would just use it. Don't spend the time and money for something that "wasn't meant to be". The GSR was production and is fairly problem free.
I am running into headgasket problems with the LS/VTEC. But that may just be inherent to my particular motor.
Good luck

Re: Ls/vtec with GS-R Motor (Shft@9GSR)
I say pull the GSR motor, drop in the LS motor and send the gSR block out for sleeving or the like... open up the bore for increased displacement. The LSVT gives more torque and HP, but the GSR has a better R/S ratio, no machining is required to the girdle, has the oil passages built in and is a stock motor. (keep in mind I have a turbo'd LSVT setup in my own car)
If you have it... go GSR, otherwise, I am looking to buy another GSR block... wanna sell ?

Re: Ls/vtec with GS-R Motor (X2BOARD)
build your gsr motor, sell the ls block. stay with a vtec bottom end so that you can rev it!! ls and crvtecs have terrible high rpm oiling, that is why they are blowing up!

I'd only said to use the GSR block, mainly because you already have one and it eliminates the external oil line. But heck with my opinion, it really doen't matter much. Rod ratios- I have my opinions about them....email me if you want.
