Finding a USDM B18C5 is pretty rough... You can get the JDM B18C (ITR) longblocks from most distributors. Call up Steve at HMO (http://www.hmotorsonline.com) and see what he can do.

that doesnt sound like a bad idea, how much do you think that whole setup would cost, labor and all? would i have to worry about valve to piston clearance? anyone know any good shops in md that would do a build like that?

you also make that ls/vtec setup sound alot easier and simpler than they reeally are, i looked into them, and they are pretty complex, when it comes down to getting all of the parts, there are alot of parts needed to build an ls/vtec setup that will make good power.

Or just reuse your b16 block, get an ls crank, rods, and these pistons: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=951003

Exact same as an ls vtec(except you dont have to use an external oil line and you already have oil squirters), but it still looks like a b16 from the outside.

fEEsh has his computer at school and he is home this week. I told him about you looking for a block and he said he'd check his PMs as soon as he can and get back to you.

The issue isn't just about money. It's also about finding a shop that you can trust to build it right. LS blocks require a method of getting oil to the VTEC head added. The LS also lacks a girdle, which helps reinforce the reciprocating assembly for those long periods of time where you have the engine pinned at 8000 RPM. The next issue that comes to mind after money is, how much time will it take? With a B18C(Type R) long block, downtime is minimal. Having parts machined, waiting for uncommon parts to arrive through the mail, that could take a few months or more.
