Default How to identify if a B18C engine in a Civic?

Hello. I need to know where to find a block ID casting/ significant ID marks to ID a B18C engine installed in a Civic. I'm looking at a 93 Civic EX tomorrow that supposedly has a 99 GSR engine in it. The guy said it's a B18C1 (Shouldn't it be a B18C5 if from a 99?) Anyhow, Q's like this (and making sure it's not the stock EX engine) prompts me to ask.

If this car really does have the B18C...I'll be gold. I' was getting ready to order one for my 94 Civic. This would save much $$ and effort....especially shipping to Hawaii!!

Appreciate any input.

Look at the stamp on the passenger side of the block... close to the tranny.

It will say b18c1, b18c, b18c5 or whatever.

and 99 could be both c1 and c5. C1 is GSR and c5 is Type R.

either way ^ will work. the plate on the block is located directly to the left of the exhaust manifold, on the edge of the block next to where the tranny mates up. you might have to clean that area off as it could be caked with grease/dirt. the ID plate is not that big, probly an inch and a half squared at the most.

what they said
to check the year look at the stamp under the engine code stamp
example of a 1995 gsr:

b18c1
2354572

the number 2 or the first # on the sequence of vin #s means what year the b18c1 came from
1=first yr
2=2nd
3=third
ect..
since the b18c1 was made for 94+ chasis then the 2 means 2nd year/gen, or 1995

i donno what yr the b18c5s came in production, but if you find out which year then you can tell which year that motor is from
