Default How do you get the pin out that holds the shift linkage?

My buddy Chad is trying to get his b18c1 out of his (soon to be my new drag car... for FREE!) 95 civic ex. We can't get the shift linkage disconnected because of a pin holding it on, we can't get it off. I've heard around that you need a special tool to get it out, but I'm not 100% sure on that, or on where to get the tool or what the hell the tool is called. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

All you need is a pin punch and a hammer. You can get it at any kinda hardware store.

Yep the pin punch. But be carefull not to ge the pin punch stuck where the pin is when you pop it out.

1/4" roll pin punch is what you need and a 3 lb. sledge hammer. Grip the punch with a vice grip and hit it hard with the sledge hammer. You should be able to get it out within about 4-6 hits.

The el cheapo method would be to get a 1/4" bolt hack saw the thread and head off and use a hammer your standard hammer. Took me less than a minute and I didn't have to run to home depot (again)

think about replacing the pin with a bolt afterwards. makes it easier to get out later.

... or you could just disconnect the shift linkage from below the shifter. Thats what I usually do. That way you never have to hammer that pin out, and you dont have to go to the honda dealership to buy a new one when you replace it.

yeah, I put a bolt on there and tightened it as hard as i could... there was a lot of play in the shifter and then while I was on the interstate the bolt came out, and I had dragging linkage at 65+ mph

get the pin...

Just take a 1/4'' punch like everyone else said, put it in the middle of the pin and hammer it out, it should come out nice and smooth.
