I recently brought a 99gsr swap from IAS..in NC...a friend old me that my motor is a 97..on the head its stamped 99...he said u can look at the vin number and tell what year the motor is....On the tranny there is the green tag...can u tell by that tag what year the swap is ?I think i might have a 97 tranny..

the 96 and up have the vin on the tranny (the green tag) The way to identify the year is in the tenth place in the vin it should be a T, V, W, X, or Y.

V=97
W=98
X=99
Y=00
