Default Question on VIN numbers

If i buy a legit tranny with VIN number and everything, how can I drive around with it legally on the road?

Scenario: Cop pulls you over for loud exhaust and asks you to pop your hood. While inspecting your motor, he checks your VIN number. VIN number doesn't match with the one in your chassis. Are you busted even though you bought a legit tranny?

What about the spoon tranny? It doesn't have vin? Just receipt of purchase of anything is enough to prove its legit?

ALL the pre-96 hondas/acuras have no vin #'s on their tranny casings...stop sweating it and just do the damn thing. in the worst case scenario, just say you busted your original tranny and bought a 95 gsr tranny to replace it.

I wonder what are the chances a police officer look at the Tranny case VIN #. What are the chance, like .001 %. I've never heard in cali that a police officer has done that, let alone know where to look.
