f20b del sol idle issue
Ok so my buddy has a f20b del sol and it bounces idle. I've cleaned the iacv it's also new. But I can hear it hissing. Checked vaccume lines they checked good. I pulled the brake booster line off and it idled the exact same. I've tried to clean his tb. No luck still bouncing around. Any help?

Intake manifold gasket? Try spraying starting fluid around the manifold, tb, injectors, etc. When the idle raises up, you've found the spot of your leak

Bleed the coolant system to ensure there is no air in the system and also clean out the FITV - fast idle thermal valve. There are a few writeups on here on how to do it, it's really easy. The hissing tho leads me to believe there is a vacuum leak. Does it have an aftermarket intake piping or stock? Sometimes the aftermarket intakes have a hissing sound through the filter that could be mistaken with a vacuum lesk.

I could not find the fitv I dont belive it has it. It does kind have a after market intake kinda like custom but the hissing noise is around the intake the cone it towards the front of the car.

Re: f20b del sol idle issue
the hissing sound is normal. I'm assuming that cone is a cold air intake. Have you adjusted the timing? Have you calibrated the TPS?

^ as he mentioned the hissing around th4 filter is normal. I would bleed coolant system to ensure there is no air in the coolant system - which can cause idle surging. It should have a FITV, so u might look again - or post up some pictures of the manifold so I can point it out to u.
Most common causes for idle surge in a honda:
1. Vacuum leak
2. Air in coolant
3. IACV / FITV issues

Re: f20b del sol idle issue
Ya Im familiar with hondas the hissing isn't around the cone it up near the intake mani the intske it all the way to the front. I've bleed the coolant for a while and also it has a new iacv I also tried to clean that. I couldn't locate the fitv I'll try to post a pic of his intake mani. He hasn't touched the tps nor calibrated it ran fine when he got the csr then one morning it was doing this.

Yes, side of TB, above the opening, below the map sensor. Will be a flat-bladed screw. Sometimes they are petty tight so be aware and try not to strip it. There is also an adjustment near the throttle cable bracket on TB, but that shouldn't need to be messed with

Re: f20b del sol idle issue
That appears to be a B/D series IACV and not one designed for a H22... it is installed upside down which may place the two ports slightly offset from the inlet and discharge holes in the manifold creating the leak that you hear. Unplug it, loosen both bolts holding it in place slightly and slip a piece of paper or thin cardboard between the manifold and IACV where the two holes are, then re-tighten the two 12mm headed nuts. DO NOT PLUG IT BACK IN AT THIS POINT, this test will simply help identify the leak. Crank the car and see if the "hunting" idle goes away... the idle should be LOW, like nearly stalling, but steady. If this stops the sound, replace the IACV with the proper one (one coolant barb has a 90' bend in it so both coolant lines will clear the intake runners).
If this isn't your problem, then examine the FITV as has been suggested by others above.
Assuming you have an original H22 throttle body, it is located on the bottom of the throttle body... held in place by three 10mm 6-pt bolts with the heads facing down toward the ground. Remove the intake tube and locate the small hole inside the mouth of the throttle body, just in front of the throttle plate, at about the 8 o'clock position. Crank the car and then cover this hole with your finger completely. If the car idles down to normal once the hole is covered, then this is the problem. You will need to remove the end plate on the FITV (two 8mm 6-pt bolts with #2 Phillips inset), clean the inside thoroughly, and then screw the brass/plastic plunger back on/down all of the way until it stops. Re-install the end plate and crank the car.
Good luck.
