1993 del sol idle
i want to ask about the idle of a 1993 si. i have cleaned the iacv, which did a lot. and the pcv was helping too. but the idle occasionaly is wrong, or bounces off of 2000 rpm, down and back up, sometimes it bounces off of 2300 on either cold or warm start up. nto hot start, but warm. well i looked more into the fast idle thermo valve. i found others say while running and fully warmed up, the hole in the throttle body shouldnt have any air going through it. i removed the intake tube while it was running fully warmed up, and i put my finger over the hole, the idle went from about 800 down a hair, and the IAC corrected for it very quickly. should the fast idle valve fully stop the air, or just almost fully stop it. once i put my finger on the hole, i felt a vacuum develop against it. not instantly but it wasnt slow either. i dunno weather i need to remove and clean or replace the fast idle valve. or is this actually correct. the car door get poor mileage, about 25-27 or 28 in the city.

i would also like to know if anybody knows the spec for the ecm 2 wire coolant temp sensor under the distributor. how many ohms when cold at what temp, and how many ohms when warm at what temperature.

first off i think it great if your car door is getting 25-28 mpg

Your mpg dosent sound to low esp since it is winter. As far as the question about the fitv there should be no vacume there once the car is warmed up if there is you have a vacume leak and the idle speed will bounce. There a several post in the arcives on diy cleaning and adjustmnet of the fitv good luck

I know it sounds stupid but check your throttle cable and make sure it's not hanging. Mine started hanging and was causing high idle by pulling on the TB.

i have checked the throttle cable, the throttle plate closes fully, and the cable moves nicely. so your saying, that when fully warmed up, i should be able to cover the fitv hole in the throttle body and not feel anything at all? the mileage that the car DOOR [ha ha!] gets, is what i recorded this summer, not from this winter. i do know its gotten worse in the winter. if the fitv has a slight leak when its shut will me dissassembling it and cleaning it help, or do i only need to open the side and tighten the big thing with the 2 slots in it that usually loosens up. or, does this sound like its not repairable, and the valve must be replaced.
