Difference between JDM and US b18c1 motor?
What makes the 1996 JDM b18c1 motor have 10 more HP than the US motor? Is it simply the compression ratio difference? Is the ECU the same? What else is different?
Thanks.

And you think you would know that it is a B18c1, not a B16c1 just from looking at your name

actually there is no such thing as a JDM b18c1 either so just rying to clarify and think I still gave him the info he needed
96_GsR_BlownEngine: to answer you r ? more completely and also looking at your other post about installing
JDM motor will have higher compression, I believe the 96 up JDM motors lack the vtec oil pressure switch(don't know for sure my 95 JDM B16a had one) which your USDM motor will have and USDM ecu will look for, but if you switch to a JDM ecu no worries other wise if you want to use your USDM ecu with the JDM motor you will need to switch over the sensor from your blown engine, but if still have the old engine it should be pretty easy, hope this helps

Real JDM engines have only a 4 digit code "B16A or B18C", while North American models were 5 digit codes ie "B16A3". There is no such things a a B16C1 or even B16C.
The difference between the gsr B18C models are:
USDM- B18C1 170 hp
JDM- B18C (gsr) 180hp due to slightly higher compression, and different cam profile
