thanks, i knew the d16z6 vtec head would bolt onto the Si block (d16a6) but i wasnt sure if it would bolt onto the d15b2 because its a 1.5liter. Has anyone on here actually put the head on the 1.5 block? what kinda 1/4 miles could i expect.. mid 15s? thanks

what kind of car is it going in? if its a lighter car, it would be able to hit lower 16's if yuo can drive.

Its going in a 1991 DX hatchback. the motor has 144,000 well maintained miles. I plan on running a compression check on it soon, and as long as the compression is still good im going to find a d16z6 head and swap it on. I will be happy with 16s, the car is just a small project car, i dont plan on racing it - just want it to be quicker, and i like the idea of VTEC even though it probably cant even be heard on a SOHC motor. Is there really that big of an advantage to using an apex vafc over just a rpm switch? im tryin to keep the cost low on the project. i plan on getting si manifold preferably complete with injectors.. etc, and a Si ecu. i will also be running a header, full custom exhaust and intake. I think this will turn the car into a respectable, streetable dx! thanks so far for the help. also, if anyone who has done the swap onto a d15 would like to, your impressions on the swap are welcome.. thanks!

If i do head-only swap, how much shoudl i expect to spend? so far im thinking (hoping??) it will be about like this:

$150-$200 to do full MPFI conversion
$150?? for the d16z6 head
$100 for timing belt, serpentine belts, misc junk (wiring oil coolant etc)

so maybe $400-$500 to get my dx into the 16s with vtec.. i also plan to eventually get an apex vafc to get the correct fuel amount for vtec but $200 is alot of money to cough up for a little blue and silver piece of plastic

i bought the car with the mini me in it, the car had 111,000 miles on it and i put on bout 30k. the motors past is kinda shady..(but i do have maint records from the time i had bought the car.) i will be nothing but completely honest when asked about this motor. ill sell everything below for $150
-d16z6 head, fuel rail, intake mani, etc etc
-d15b7 block (20k ish miles put on by me)
-d series hydro tranny (dont know which one) (tranny SHOULD be replaced or repaired **bad synchros) clutch slipping too
-shift linkage
-axles
-p28 ecu
**head gasket leaked but wasnt completely blown (got heated every now and then)
i never ran nitrous so i doubt its cracked (take the head to a machine shop)
-shiny blue oil cap
any other questions feel free to ask. i could take aprt the setup and part out everything and make a LOT of money i just dont have a garage or the time to do it. this is a good opportunity for anybody. engine needs a good home. i dont want to have to take it to the recycling yard.

yeah you could, but your engine wouldnt last long, and wouldnt make much power with the restrictive stock parts. also, you cant do that with the stock dpfi w/o some other kind of fuel management or with out it being so ghetto you would run the risk of blowing the motor.

you could just run your stock block and invest that 500 into a turbo kit and mpfi parts. check out ebay, they sometimes have complete kits for under 500.

Well, I have a d15b2 and a d16y8 that WILL NOT WORK because of the timing and mainly the water pump. That is a 2 tooth difference and is a complete pain in the ****.

If anyone's interested let me know I have a D16Y8 head to sell...

im just lookin for a local head, i dont wanna pay shipping on whatever it actually weighs if i can just get it locally. im not in a hurry, i hope to have all the parts accumulated in 2 months or so.. but im seriously looking for pm6 ecu and mpfi conversion parts, i think for the time being the hp increase from mpfi would help alot until i can get vtec.
