Default d16y7 into 95 hatch - yes I said y7 :)

I'm looking to build a non-vtec motor for turbo for as cheap as possible and I've got a line on a couple of d16y7's from some friends. I'd like to know if I can put this motor into my 95 Civic Hatch without having to convert to obd2 or change motor mounts. I will be using eagle rods with vitara pistons and dsm bluetops for inectors.

Has this been done? Will I be able to stick with OBD1? Will I need to fab any mounts or will this bolt right in?

I know the y7 intake manifold is trash, so I plan to pickup either a z6 or a y7 IM, which would work best?

Thanks!

Many many times, I've swapped 3 of them into some EF's I've owned because they are cheap and in abundance. All you need to do is change the driver's side upper motor mount and bracket on the Y7 to the 92-95 D series bracket and mount and it'll bolt right in.

Yeah you definitely want to avoid the Y7 intake manifold not only for poor performance reasons but the 3 wire IACV will get you too. Get yourself a Z6 or manual Y8 intake manifold and then reuse all OBD1 electronics (ECU, injectors, distributor, engine harness, etc.).

Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate the help.

Will I be able to use the distributor I've got on my d15b7 right now?

I'm picking up a z6 IM so that should work as you stated above.. Thanks again!

Have you considered a LS swap? DOHC non vtec.

If you can get the y7 cheap, go for it, but I know the local junkyard down here sells b18a engine complete for 400$. Anyway, good luck with whatever you do.

I wish I had those junkyards in Edmonton, Alberta... that'd be wicked, but unfortunately b18a1's go for anywhere around 800-900 canadian up here.

The y7 i can get for super cheap and i've got pistons and rods for the d already...

Thanks alot guys!
