Personally I say it's just different. For less hassle a cherry picker makes it go quicker. But both are easy in my book just different methods. Not sure how much more I can say I are you looking for steps and methods on how to do it from the bottom? I've done about 5 from below, and only 2 from above just because a cherry picker isn't read and available in my garage.

It takes a bit more fidging and wiggling to get the intial to upper side mounts to line up perfect but besides that it's just a little more muscle and time into it.

It depends on what you have to work with. Of course without a hoist putting it in from up top would be harder. I used to use a hoist and installed the motor with tranny connected from the top. Then I decided to try it from the bottom - motor first then tranny. This way was also easy and the best way if you don't have a hoist in my opinion. I've done 3 swaps that way and 11 with a hoist and to be honest I like it on bottom better

I've put a 99 si into a 93 civic from the bottom before and It was easier than putting it in from the top. Like the first guy stated....Its just different. Either way it takes about the same amount of effort. One advantage of putting an engine in through the bottom is that the shiftlinkage won't cause you any problems and you won't scratch your front bumper.

When my friends and I did my swap we put the motor in from the bottom, but we also had a lift to work with. We put the motor on a tire lowered the car and shifted the motor as needed. I have never done a swap any other way so I have no idea about from the top. I would just what to put to motor in from the bottom so there is less chance of anything getting damaged.

When the cars come from the factory they but the engine in from the bottom so it is easier if you go that way. thats the way it was designed to work, but if you dont have the tools to work with then you can put it in from the top. personally i would go bottom because when your putting it in through the top there are clearance issues, it can get tight.

the way i do it.. i rest the motor.. on the legs of the engine hoist... then jack the car up so i can slide the engine underneath the car, then lower the car to an acceptable height... then use the engine hoist to lift it up maybe a foot.. so i can bolt on the mounts..

doing it from the bottom is sooo much easier for me.. less things to break.. and a better piece of mind.. when i do it from the top, i'm always scared that the chain might break.. or something.. and the motor will drop.. and doing it from the top requires that u angle the motor.. and you can easily knock something around.. map sensor... etc.. and break it.. bottom = easier for me.. even with a hoist.

They are assembled from the bottom at the factory. It is by far the easiest way providing you have a lift.
