Default D to D series

Hey guys,

I've searched and all that wonderful stuff but im just making sure I have everything in check before i go ahead and do this since i've heard mixed multiple answers to some questions. I'm going to be swap'ing my D15B7 to a D16Z6(No i dont have the money for a B/H series, and I'm going to be turbo'ing this D16 on about 8PSI...i picked up the D16Z6 engine/tranny for cheap) Oh..its an auto-manual swap AND an engine swap at the same time.

So heres my parts list:

Engine
Transmission (clutch, flywheel and all that fun stuff is in there)
Linkage/Stabilizer/Shifter Assembly
Pedal assembly
Computer(ECU)
Manual Starter
Hydrolic Lines

Now the only thing i have a question about is the mount(tranny mount). Ive heard mixed answers about this so i just need one final correct answer. I'm going to need the manual tranny top passenger side mount correct? If its something else let me know. Now, when i take out my AUTO mount, do i need to weld in this new manual mount or does it just bolt into factory locations? This is the only thing thats scaring me here.

Yes, or you can get a custom mount from HCP or Place Racing.

I dont have the money for a custom mount so the manual tranny mount shall do.

So does it weld in or bolt up? (The manual mount)

you have to take the top trans bracket (drill the spot welds out) and weld it in to the auto car (you have to remove the old auto bracket first)

i have heard mixed reviews on this .. some people who do this it works out fine .. others have done this and the the mount doesn't hold and rips off i'd wait and spend the money on the custom mount and do it right. but then again - thats just me place racing makes one for a reasonable price i believe

Its something like 150$ US. Sure that dosnt sound like much...BUT make that canadian, add taxes, broker fees and all of that and its an easy 300$ for a mount. I cant afford it.

hehe. find a fellow h-t'er, paypal money .. only 3% have them get the product, then ship it to you as a private party. not sure if that helps you bypass any of those fees but its an option.

I have only seen it fail when the installer is at fault.

Same here. If it's welded properly in the right location there should be no reason why it wouldn't be just like a stock manual equipped car.

Ok so just to wrap up.

1. Get the manual tranny mount
2. Get the manual tranny bracket (top)
3. Remove auto bracket
4. Drill spot welds out
5. Weld Manual bracket onto car.

Sound about right?

flip #3 and 4, you have to drill the spot welds out of both to remove them

Yes but only within the specific generations. Ex: 1990 D16A6 driver's side mount is not interchangeable with a 1999 D16Y8 mount. As long as you stay within the same generation you're good to go.

Yes you can.
