Default Manual trans swapping D series

Can anyone remember if there was a writeup on swapping out a worn out D series manual trans for another manual D trans? Does the driver mounts need to be unbolted when you bring engine/trans down so you can slide trans off the mainshaft?

based on my experience of swapping from auto - manual, you don't need to unmount the engine. just put a jack under it to support it. unbolt the tranny torque mount, side mount, and rear mount. Also disconnect the shift linkage. Remove the starter, reverse light sensor, and vss. I used a tranny jack, just rest it on the jack and pull it back. There should be enough room for it to pull the spindle from your flywheel. Also remove your axels and clutch lines That's pretty much it to removing it. reverse to put the new one in.

HOw far do you have to drop the trans side on motor so trans clears and you can free it? Will the stock EK soda can mount flex that much? hehe

soda can???

either way, you pull it back... probably 4 inches... then just drop the tranny. Should come right out.

i have a 96 cx, and i just filled my mounts, granted the upper drivers side mount doesn't get any stiffening, i have no idea what a soda can mount looks like??? maybe those tiny 3 inch soda can have somewhat, maybe a resemblance.....

I have a 00 civic EX and I still have no idea how my side tranny mount resembles a soda can. In any case, just remove the bolt that connects the tranny bracket to the mount. To makie it even easier on removing the transmission, remove the bracket entirely so that you have nothing that can hit the side wall. Just rest the transmission on a transmission jack, unbolt the torque mount, side transmission mount (and remove the bracket from the transmission), then unbolt the 3 or 4 bolts on the rear transmission bracket (yes bracket, not mount). After you do that, pull it back and drop it. When you rebolt the rear transmission mount, I found it easier to remove the bracket from the mount to align the holes on the transmission.
