Default BUYING THIS CAR.

I am about to buy a car and everything has been done from brakes to motor. It's a fully built "race ready" b16a3 motor from dh-racing.com with upgrades. Including act stage2 clutch, 76mm throttle body, polished and ported head, jdm type r header, test pipe, apexi n1 exhaust, 4 inch custom intake fuel rail with b&m F.P.R., Wilwood big break kit, Fully built tanny with shortened gear ratios and a type r final drive, arospeed full coil overs, motegi r7 with yokoham es100 tires on fronts with capitals on the rear, about 11.0 to 1 compression runs on 91 octane, locked differential. Im a lil concerned with the legal issues with the car but im willing to risk it since a lot of civics are running with swapped engines anyway. Also with the setup, will the car pass smog legally? Is this car going to be reliable? I really love this car and I want to buy it already but I really need some Tech support from all of you who has knowledge or in the same situation. Thanks

Yeah i think it would be better to DIY, u never know what has been done to that motor, plus it will most likely not pass any smog test.

But if you have the money and can deal with all the hastle then go for it, but I would much rather say that this is my creation not someones elses!

No, it will NOT pass inspection. Reason---- TEST PIPE!

Also, doesn't sound too "race ready" to me. Build your own and you will understand why I say this....

OK since i am convinced that i should go for stock and modify it myself, which has a better platform for modification. 99 gsr or 99 si? I am such a newbie at this so i really need help.

Are you talking about the engine or the whole car? Alot of factors come into play.... I would personally, go for the GSR because the engine is a little bigger, more powerful, more torque, and has an all around better platform to work with. However, b16's are great too...... you will probably be happy with either one of these engines..... Good Luck

99 gsr or 99 si.... are u talking about the actual car? or just the motors? either would be good... if u get an actual gsr, then u dont have to worry bout swapping a motor.. if u get the 99si, then u could put a gsr motor in it. (the si engine is great also) but for the same price of i/h/e on a b16, u could do the same stuff to the gsr, and be a lil bit more faster... or do i/h/e on a b18 in an si and be like WOOO HOOO!!!!!... ya know... any of these will work and u should be happy,.....

well i did not buy the 99 gsr because i found out a lot of history about the car. the car had a big accident and the chassis was bent. I ended up getting a 97 gsr with headers and intake and the car is clean. Noticed tho the car would idle funny when it hits 2nd on the rpm. kinda weird. Also my cousin bought the civic with the b16a3 engine. I want to know what kind of trouble he just got himself into because of the whole engine swap done illegally on the engine? He said a lot of people are doin it and as long as he wont speed or show off he should be fine. Im only concerend because i dont want him to get into trouble because i told him about the car and since he's spoiled like that he got the car.

yup. i'm learning the hard way. My intake, as well as about 5 other things caused the car to sit for 2 months until i could unmodify it back.

plus, i've got many gremlins in this car which i probably will spend more time finding than if I did it all like i wanted to begin with.

It sounds like a nice car, but you should never pay more than book value and 25% of bolt on cost...you never know how hard it was ragged right after being built.

Anyway, good luck, either way.

Alright It sounds like a pretty nice car, But it wont pass emissions without a catyitic converter.. (which is where the test pipe is) ..
but get a Cat and it'll probably pass
