learn off a friend and get a beater car. i am surprised ur parents will buy u a brand new car at age 16. i'm surprised ur parents will buy u a car at age 16. anyways, learn from a friend and get a beater car first, that way u can learn to take care of it and if something goes wrong, people will know how to fix it. [i'm not sure about everyone, but i don't know much about the new d17's]

I learned from solo test drives in small time car lots. Take a friend with you that knows how to drive stick, make sure to test drive a two door, preferrably a two seater. If you find a lot that allows solo test drives, be sure to drive every manual transmission car on their lot. Don't leave for longer than 15 minutes.

I got my 98 civic when I was 15, 5 years ago. I learned how to drive a stick on that. never wore out the clutch either. you just gotta be a fast learner. It doesnt matter now cause I got me a swap.

It's really up to you on what you wish to learn on. I learned the hard way (sort of). I had driven standard once or twice before, but my stepfather is a used car dealer. One day I had to drive an hour away with two other guys in order to pick up some cars. Well all the cars were standard, so basically if I didn't learn then, I'd be stuck out there. Like people said in here, basically once you get the hang of starting off on 1st, the rest is pretty basic. Then you gradually learn (driving in traffic, goin up steep hills, etc). Good luck

get a rent a car
Except that none of the major rental car companies rent them... you gotta remember that something like only 40% of americans can drive stick

buy what you want, after a month or so you'll be a pro.
