imo go with the Type R. A ls-vtec is called the poor man's Type R so why not just get the R??? Ls-Vtec needs LS block and B18c head there is quite a bit of work to do for it to work. I'm not an expert on ls-vtec so.......

actually the poor mans ITR is actually a B18C bottom end with a b16a head.. and not the B18B bottom/b18c head.. but overall I'd get a B18C1 engine to start with becuz either way u go.. b18c1 is good for N/A or turbo. but it's all about budget ..so see what u can afford and I mean afford not just bs price quotes..
but overall the B18C1 is the best overall engine to start with

I just put a b18c1 in my 95 civic coupe...love it!!! Drives stock and is fast w/ the turbo I plan on putting in there next week. Go with the B18C1, you can't go wrong.

If you have the cash, and can actually get a hold of one, I'd get the B18c5 just for the main fact that the tranny has LSD and the ITR motor has a slightly higher compression ratio than the B18C1. Are you pricing the full swap? (motor/trans/ecu etc.) The B18C1, however, is a very easy motor to get a hold of, and much more competitively priced. I've seen good B18C1 motor/tranny/ecu combos for like $1200-1400.
Ive got a friend thats runnin a B18C1 with a B16 tranny in a CRX pushin some prett low times, daily driven, and he loves it. http://hybrid.honda-perf.org --good source for motor info, and swap information
