Icon2 B17a1 Build Help

So recently a buddy of Mine told me that he had a b17 block sitting in his shed that had not been touched for a while. The car it had come out of was in a chase with Mass State Police and it was pitted and crashed by a cruiser.

He showed me the engine after lifting a trash bag off of it and for sitting a long time It was in not so bad of condition.

I loaded it onto the back of my truck and took it back to my garage.
After taking it all apart and checking the cylinder bore from top to bottom, checking piston to ring, ring to cylinder wall, connecting rod bearing clearance, crankshaft end play, etc. Everything checked out and the cylinder walls were in very good condition still showing a cross hatch on the walls. The crankshaft Journals were polished like a mirror and all of the bearings were scratch free!! Must of been a low miles rebuilt

It was a UGLY paint job of black chipping and think pealing everywhere

so I used some Air craft stripper to strip it down to bare aluminum

some elbow grease to clean it up and painted the block.

Was wondering if anyone had any advice that has build a b17 before and wondering what head is a good for this build?

Was thinking of running a B16 tranny.

Whatever the build comes out to be it will be tuned on an S300.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Its made to use the B16/ PR3 head but the GSR head would work as well. Just need to get the correct intake manifold. The B17a block is nothing more than a B16a block with a "stroked" crank but it had low compression pistons too.

Check this out to get a good mix of parts: Compression Calculator - Honda, Acura Tech Website, tutorials, tuning and HOW-TO's. Drag racing, street racing, road racing - C-speedR.com

@Trey couldn't of said it better. Its just a bigger stroke that makes it a 1.7

But basically a b16 so any type of fastener you would want to use mains, head studs ect.... go for the b16's. Goodluck!

(PS the 1.7 Head is a normal GSR you can use any type of gsr manifold on it only thing that is not b16 related lol).

Correction.....The B17a came in the second gen GSR but used the PR3 b16a, no secondary butterflies (IAB).

Check out the intake manifold:

If you want to go high compression, I've got some b17 rods with ctr pistons. Message me if you are interested
