Default How to install a 98+ B18C in a 95 Del Sol VTEC

We are curently running a B17A1 in a 95 del sol VTEC car. The B17A1 is running off the Stock del sol wiring harness and a P30 ECU. Its a roadrace car. Has no cat and such forth. We are looking at the 98+ spec B18C5 motor swap. What all will i have to do to properly swap over. Its a OBD1 to OBD2 swap. I have never done any of the wiring side stuff for converting a car before so sorry in advance. Also we will be getting a full swap. with JDM ECU and wiring harness. We also have 2 P30 ECUS already. one USDM and one JDM.

You can reuse the distributor, injectors and alternator off the B17 for plug and play. The rest of the sensors should plug and play. If its USDM swap you can just plug and play the wiring harness to the shock towers, if its JDM it'll be right hand drive and won't plug in. You probably will want to either chip the P30 for an ITR basemap or get a P28 and do the same although the P30 will run it without codes. Also if its an OBD2 JDM P73 ECU you should be able to run that as well with an adapter harness with no codes. I believe mounts (swap over the timing belt block mount from the Del Sol or use the ITR drivers side mount) , axles and shift linkage should swap over with no issue. Should be a relatively straightforward swap.

So mounts, axles and shifter setup is the same. It will be a JDM motor. I wont be ordering a harness. just the JDM ECU. I dont know a lot of the difference between the nUSDM and JDM motors. I know there a bunch. But we dont want to deal with the second O2 sensor. What else will we have to deal with? And can i use the current wiring harness?

JDM P73 doesn't look for 2nd 02, CKF or any of the evap sensors. You will need a jumper harness for ECU to use it. All else swaps right over if you follow my advice above.

Thank you very much. The Type R swap works best because it fixes the incorrect 2ND gear we have and with the improved power we will need a different FD. Right now it 4.9 and the 98+ ITR is 4.7. Also have some spare parts. We have a MSD billit distributor with external coil and igniter. Its OBD2 and has a MSD OBD2-OBD1 harness. Think we will have any problems? I looked at your link and am asuming we can buy the needed OBD1-OBD2 harness for the ecu plugin from you?

i wouldn't run an obd2 ecu in your car. unless you like looking at a check engine light constantly.

Why would I have a code? and any idea what code it would be? I am asuming it would be looking for something thats not there. I was told the MAP sensor is much different in JDM vehicles. True?

Won't be any check engine lights on the JDM ECU like if it was USDM. Like I said it doesn't look for any of those sensors. MAP is the same.
