b16a1 iat sensor???

b16a1 iat sensor???
i bought a car that already had a turbo ls/vtec in it, and i'm having some serious trouble figuring out what the builder of the motor did. first off i'm getting a iat code and there is no iat on the intake. i found the wire for it, but it's just laying to the side. i even pluged an old sensor into the connector and the code went off, so what do i do? is there a place for a iat on a 16a1 intake that i don't know of? and where is it?

easiest way to take care of the problem. find iat sensor that you are not using and just plug it up to. don't mind if it dangles on the side. the iat just detect what intake temp is. any other help just reply.

thanks, i've asked that question on several forums and your the first person to answer. i knew the cel would go off if i did that, but i wasn't sure if the ecu actually made any changes according to what the reading was.

does anyone else have any thought on this. i've been told on other forums that i shouldn't just plug in an old sensor, that might screw up something? does anybody know where the iat sensor went on a stock b16a1 intake manifold???

i dont' really know what gen it is. do you have any pics of your motor. there is a place on the number 4 runner, and it's toward the top. it looks like an oval plate. i know that's a horrible description, but i'm lost here. i'm assuming that the iat sensor acually goes inside the manifold doesn't it? so i'm looking for a tapped hole on the manifold big enough for a sensor (about the size of the engine coolant temp sensor), right??? any clues you can give me are appreciated.

Re: (kell211)
is it possible that the place where the iat goes doesn't have a hole cut in it? the place i was trying to describe on the 4th runner looks like it's it, but it's solid, there's no hole for a sensor to go in. but it is the basic shape of how i've seen other iat sensors mount up (kind of oval shaped, sensor in the middle and a screw on each side?) does this sound familiar to anyone?? did any intakes come without the hole drilled, or do i have no idea how the iat is installed?

The sensor bolts on like a tps switch. one bolt on either side and them a little tip that goes into the manifold. It would be weird that it is not open but more than possible.

If you have an OEM B16A manifold then the IAT should be on the 4th intake runner as a white plastic 2 prong sensor. You should have no trouble finding it. If the manifold is from a 99-00 Si B16A2 then the IAT would be in the intake tube. But since you have a turbo, they might not have drilled to mount it in the charge pipe.

Re: (VTECVillain)
i got a reply from another source that said the iat on a jdm b16a1 was acually in the intake pipe. and he said to mount it half way between the throttle body and the blow off valve since my car was turbo'd. does anyone know if this is correct or not?? also, he thought it was a 5/16 hole to tap, anybody know for sure??

Yeah the IAT on the 99-00 B16a2's are on the intake piping..... I had to drill a hole on my intake pipe for it to be on there.... It's not that hard to find if it's on the intake piping.... you should see a little plug in on the intake.... hope this helped.....

Re: (rig9896)
is it better to have it mounted on the intake pipe or on the manifold? or does it make a difference? it would be alot easier to take the intake pipe off to remove metal shavings, than to remove the intake manifold. it looks nice in that manifold, but that's a lot more trouble.

Like was said before, just let it dangle. It's not gonna hurt anything as long as it's tied off somewhere.
