i have a h22 in my 92 cx hatch. it wont go in reverse at all, in will go in 5th though. even when u move the shift linkage on top of the tranny in wont go??? is it the reverse gear, or maybe just the reverse spring??? i need help. thanks

I hope that thread helps. This thing happens alot with h series trannies. It even happened to me. They are pretty weak from what I have heard. One bang of the gears into third or fifth can totally mess up your transmission.

Ok, this is gonna sound totally strange, and you may not believe me, but I SWEAR this happened to me too-- I had the same problem. I couldn't use reverse for a little over 2 months in my swap-- I ordered the synchro set, etc. but it wasnt in yet. I drained the fluid and added GM Synchromesh fluid from the local GM dealer, thinking this may aid the problem until I get my gear in. Anyway, after about 2 weeks of having that fluid in, I was showing a co-worker how my car just won't go into reverse and.. well.. it went into reverse. I did it again.. and again, etc. It now goes into reverse readily, 5th gear grind is gone, and it's been 3 months since that without a problem since! I know, it doesn't sound right, but KENLUDE97 and SIDan from this board will verify-- it's true. Could just be a fluke.
Give it a try, it may save some time and $$$$$....

same thing happened to me, reverse died on me for acouple weeks then magically came back, i just try to baby it going into 3rd and 5th now and no problems so far
