b16 swap cranking but not turning over
i just swapped a new b16 into a crx shell that i bought that was b series ready.
everything plugs in and when i try to start it, black smoke comes out of the exhaust and it backfires...i checked the plugs and i tried messing with the distributer but no luck...any advice would be much help...thanks a lot

If its puffing smoke then its either firing wrong, or timing is off. Did you put a new belt? Did you take the wires off for some reason and put them on out of order? Im not trying to ask you these like you're dumb, im just trying to help narrow it down.

When you bought the motor, was it from a company or from someone off the street that might have changed the T belt or put cam gears or anything like that? If the stock crank pulley is on then you can check it that way. There are marks on the Crank pulley and an arrow type mark on the lower timing cover, when they are lined up the cam gears should be lined up with the hash marks lining up.
